The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program

There are two key modes of immigration to Saskatchewan:

  • You can immigrate through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). Most SINP classifications necessitate your having received a job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.
  • You can immigrate through a federal classification of Citizenship and Immigration Canada

If you are employed in an occupation that is regulated in Saskatchewan, you will need to contact your occupation’s regulatory body and inquire as to whether your education and work experience are recognized by Saskatchewan. Immigrating through the SINP is an option for individuals who want to immigrate to Saskatchewan as permanent residents. This requires that the candidate have the education, skills, and work experience that is compatible with Saskatchewan’s economic needs. There are three SINP categories for Nomination: International Skilled Workers, Saskatchewan Experience, and Entrepreneurs and Farm.

International Skilled Workers Category

This category is for skilled workers who have the education, work experience and language capabilities to ensure their successful integration into Saskatchewan’s labour market and communities. This category includes three streams:

  • International Skilled Worker – Employment Offer Sub-Category

Skilled workers have the opportunity to immigrate to Saskatchewan with an offer of employment     offer from a Saskatchewan employer

  • International Skilled Worker – Occupations in-Demand Sub-Category

Highly skilled workers whose occupation is in-demand in Saskatchewan, but have no job offer, may     be eligible to apply for SINP nomination.

  • International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry Sub-Category

Skilled workers in Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s Express Entry Pool may apply to the SINP for nomination.

Saskatchewan Experience Category

This category is for foreigners who already work and live in Saskatchewan. It includes the following streams:

  • Existing Work Permit Sub-Category

Skilled workers can be nominated by the SINP if they have a valid work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and have been working in Saskatchewan for at least six months.

  • Health Professional Sub-Category

Health professionals who have been trained outside of Canada and working in Saskatchewan for at least six months with a temporary work permit can apply for nomination by the SINP. There are three classes under which a candidate may qualify:

Physicians
Nurses
Other Health Professionals

  • Hospitality Sector Project Sub-Category

Foreigners who are currently working in Saskatchewan in one of the following jobs can apply for nomination by the SINP:

Food/Beverage Server
Food Counter Attendant/Kitchen Helper
Housekeeping/Cleaning Staff

  • Long Haul Truck Driver Project Sub-Category

Foreigners who are currently employed by Saskatchewan trucking companies can apply for nomination by the SINP.

  • Student Sub-Category

Foreign students who have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada can apply for nomination by the SINP.

Entrepreneurs and Farm Category

Candidates who are chosen from an Expression of Interest (EOI) candidate pool receive Invitations to Apply (ITA). To accept this invitation, they must submit an official online application to the SINP Entrepreneur category. Candidates whose Expressions of Interest have not been selected will still be eligible for selection for one year from the date they submitted their EOI’s.

  • Entrepreneurs: Business people who are interested in managing or buying a business in Saskatchewan can qualify under this category.

  • Farm Owners/Operators: Applicants with extensive experience in farming and the considerable capital needed to invest in buying and operating a farm in Saskatchewan may qualify under this category.

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program is an excellent option for applicants who do not qualify under federal immigration criteria. The SINP is a valuable immigration avenue for candidates who:

  • Have relatives who have been living in Saskatchewan for at least one year
  • Have a job offer to work in Saskatchewan
  • Are currently working in Saskatchewan
  • Have graduated from a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada, have a work permit, and are currently working in Saskatchewan
  • Are planning to buy or establish a business or farm in Saskatchewan.

Nomination under a majority of these categories necessitates an education and/or work experience related job offer from a Saskatchewan employer. A nomination from Saskatchewan does not guarantee applicants a visa. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) makes the final decision to issue applicants a visa, after conducting health, criminal, and security assessments.
